If you block someone, will they come back?

This question usually gets answered with more confidence than anyone has earned. Here is the version we can stand behind: what you can check yourself, in what order, and where the honest limits are.

Three things about blocking on CamDiv are things you can check yourself, right now, without taking anyone's word for it. You can block someone from their profile. You can see everyone you have blocked on one list in your settings. You can unblock them from that same list. Go and look.

What happens deeper than that — how a random queue selects people, what it does with a block internally — is not something we are going to invent a clean story about. No serious platform publishes its matching internals, and any site that promises you will never lay eyes on a particular person again is making a promise it has not shown you how to check.

So the useful thing is not a guarantee. It is a procedure, and knowing exactly which parts of it you control. Here it is in order.

What to do, in order

  1. 01

Work out which button you actually want

Skip ends this call and moves you to someone else. It is a decision about your next sixty seconds and it files nothing anywhere. Block is a decision you record, and it stays recorded on a list until you change it.

Most people who complain that blocking did nothing had in fact skipped. It is worth being clear with yourself about which one you did.

WhyThey feel similar in the moment and they do completely different jobs, and only one of them leaves a trace.

  2. 02

Block from their profile, while you still have it open

Open the person's profile, tap the more menu in the corner, and choose Block. That is where the control lives. The in-call controls are for mic, camera, next and hang up — the call screen is built to end calls, not to file people.

That has a practical consequence: if you tap next first, you may have nothing left to identify them with. Deal with the person before you move on from them.

WhyA block needs a specific account attached to it, and after you have skipped, you may no longer have one.

  3. 03

    Confirm when it asks

Blocking asks you to confirm, by name, before it does anything. Read the name in the dialog — on a small screen it is genuinely possible to have opened the wrong profile — and confirm. You will get a short confirmation that it worked.

The confirmation step is deliberate. It also means a stray tap on a crowded screen does not block anybody.

WhyThe dialog is your one chance to notice you are about to file the wrong person.

  4. 04

    Check that it landed

Go to Settings, then General, then Blocked List. The person should be on it. That list is the only actual evidence that the block exists — a memory of tapping a button is not evidence, and taps do get lost on bad connections.

Do it once, straight away, while you still know who you are looking for. It is also worth knowing where that screen is before you need it, because the evening you need it is not the evening you want to be hunting through settings.

WhyThe list is the one place the block is observable, which makes checking it the only way to know.

  5. 05

Know that it is reversible — immediately

You can unblock from the same list. Worth knowing: unblocking does not ask you to confirm the way blocking does. It happens on the tap.

That cuts both ways. It means blocking is not a heavy, permanent decision you need to agonise over — file it and move on with your evening. It also means you should not go browsing that list with a lazy thumb.

WhyPeople avoid blocking because it feels irreversible, and being reversible is exactly why you should use it freely.

  6. 06

If it was behaviour and not just vibes, report as well as block

Report is a separate action from block. It asks you to pick a reason, describe what happened, and lets you attach up to three photos as evidence — the picker takes still images, so plan on a screenshot rather than a clip. The form states that reports are reviewed within 24 hours and that false reports can result in restrictions on your own account — so use it for what actually happened, and be specific.

Do both. Block is for you; report is the part that can affect what that person is able to do to somebody else.

WhyBlocking is a quiet, private act, and a private act cannot protect the next person.

  7. 07

Lean on the layers you fully control

The one-tap exit from any call, the fact that you can be there without a profile full of personal details, the things you simply never say on camera — those are yours, they work every time, and they do not depend on anything you cannot see.

Blocking is one layer on top of that, not a substitute for it. Our guide on whether cam-to-cam chat is safe goes through the rest of them in more depth.

WhyThe controls you can verify are the ones worth building your habits on.

  8. 08

If you think someone came back, check before you conclude

Two questions, in this order. Is the name actually on your blocked list — or did the block never land? And is this the same account, or a different one wearing the same face: new name, new profile, created since?

That second case is real and it is not a flaw in blocking specifically. A block applies to the account you blocked. An account somebody made this morning is a different account, and it was never on your list because it did not exist when you made the list. If it happens, block and report the new one, and say in the report that it is a repeat.

Why"They came back" and "they made a new account" look identical from your side of the screen and call for different responses.

Where people get stuck

I tried to block from the call screen and could not find it

It is not there. The call screen carries mic, camera, next and hang up — nothing that files a person. Block lives on the profile, in the more menu, which is why it is worth doing before you move on rather than after.

My blocked list is empty and I am certain I blocked someone

Two likely explanations: you skipped rather than blocked, or the block was never confirmed. There is also a third — your lists live in your account, so if you were chatting as a guest there is nothing holding a list for you.

Does the other person get told?

We are not going to make a claim about what someone else's screen shows, because that is exactly the sort of detail we cannot verify for you from the outside. Block for your own peace of mind rather than to send a message. If you want something to land somewhere, that is what the report is for.

I unblocked someone by mistake

Easy to do, since unblock does not ask for confirmation. Open their profile again and block again. Nothing about the first block gives them anything; it is just a list entry you removed.

I want them removed from the site, not just from my list

That is a report, not a block, and it is not your decision to make — which is the point of having a review process. Give the reason, describe it clearly, and attach evidence if you have any. That is the whole of what you can do, and it is not nothing.

Somebody said blocking makes you invisible to them forever

Ask them how they checked. What you can check is the list, the unblock, and the report you filed. We would rather hand you three things you can verify than one promise you cannot.

The short version, then. Blocking gives you a durable, reversible, visible list that you own, and reporting is the part with any reach beyond your own account. Neither is a force field, and anyone selling you one is selling. Use the exit, use the list, use the report — and keep the habits that never needed a button in the first place.

One last thing, because it comes up every time this subject does: do not let the question of whether a block is absolute stop you from using it. Blocking somebody costs you two taps and a confirmation, it is undone just as quickly, and the list is yours to curate. Treating it as a serious, permanent judgement is how people end up putting up with an evening they should have ended in the first thirty seconds.
